SOAR Free Online Support Sessions
SOAR: Supporting Options & Alternatives for Recovery: Our free SOAR Moderated Group Sessions Program run for ten weeks, one hour each week. Participants are asked to complete a brief survey at baseline, mid-point, and at the end of the program. Participants must agree to attend most sessions as a responsibility to others in the group of eight-ten individuals. There are also follow-up weekly, less structured, drop-in sessions for those who enjoyed the ten-week experience.
The curriculum has themes with objectives and sub-themes as well as a defined schedule for each week's meeting (for ten weeks). Participants use the schedule to be prepared for each session. And while the curriculum is structured, Moderators can choose to allow topics to be dynamic.
The curriculum is slightly different for people challenged by opioid use and those with PTSD. But the core components work for both groups. In fact, these themes and sub-themes can touch almost anyone's life. When one thinks PTSD, one thinks soldiers. And this group is the priority, as about 20 veterans take their own life every day. But there are so many people in so many places experiencing so much trauma, PTSD needs to be seen in the broader light of social challenges in the 21st century. Anyone (everyone) could use a group session now and then.
Core Themes include: Family and Friends, Mindfulness and Change, Finding Identity, Forming Meaningful Relationships, Gratitude, Loneliness, Navigating work-life balance, Understanding Anger, Stress and Anxiety, Self-Compassion.
